State Health Plan Launches New "Teacher Ambassadors Program" To Strengthen Engagement

Raleigh, N.C.

In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, the State Health Plan (Plan) is launching a new initiative designed to strengthen connections with educators and improve awareness of health benefits and resources.

The Teacher Ambassadors Program empowers participating educators to serve as trusted liaisons within their schools, sharing timely updates about Plan benefits, wellness initiatives and other available resources. By leveraging peer-to-peer communication, the program aims to ensure educators have the information they need to make informed health care decisions.

"Clear, consistent communication is essential to ensuring our members get the most value from their health plan," said State Treasurer Brad Briner, who announced the program at Clayton High School, while thanking teachers during appreciation week. "By partnering directly with teachers, we're building a stronger, more informed network that supports educators in making smarter health care decisions for themselves and their families."

Ambassadors will receive exclusive communications, including targeted emails and invitations to webinars, equipping them to help colleagues better understand and maximize their Plan benefits.

"This idea came directly from teacher feedback, which has been invaluable as we work to better engage our members," said Tom Friedman, Plan Executive Administrator. "Communicating with more than 750,000 members is no small task, and this program represents a meaningful step toward strengthening those connections and ensuring no one misses important information."

The Plan encourages interested educators to participate and take an active role in improving benefit awareness across North Carolina schools. Teachers can sign up to become an Ambassador by clicking here.

The State Health Plan, a division of the Department of State Treasurer, provides health care coverage to more than 750,000 teachers, state employees, retirees, current and former lawmakers, state university and community college personnel, and their dependents.
