Omaha area students learn about women’s manufacturing careers at WiM Nebraska Lunch & Learn

On October 28, Lozier sponsored and participated in the annual Women in Manufacturing (WiM) Nebraska Lunch and Learn event at Metropolitan Community College's Center for Advanced Manufacturing. This year marks Lozier's fifth year helping facilitate the event as one way to celebrate manufacturing month.

Girls and educators from local high schools and middle schools had the opportunity to hear from students and professionals in the industry as well as those just getting started. Gretna High School, Westview High School, Bellevue West High School, and Bryan Middle School were just a few of the schools that attended the event.

After enjoying lunch catered from MCC Culinary, attendees listened to a panel of manufacturing professionals and students. Women in Manufacturing Chair Hannah Bolte led the discussion.

One of the panelists was Lozier Sponsorship for the Trades student Bella Borges, a graduate of Blair High School. Borges attended the event in 2025 as a student. On the panel, she shared her story, explaining what prompted her to apply for the Sponsorship for the Trades program and what advice she would provide to those thinking about a career in manufacturing.

Additionally, two Bryan High School students that attended the Girls in STEM Manufacturing Camp this summer took part in the panel and spoke about their five-day hands-on experience.

After the panel discussion, attendees of the event were welcomed into MCC's welding and metal shop for a tour where they saw a demonstration of plasma cutting from MCC Welding Instructor Ann Krause.

This year's event was the largest WiM Nebraska Lunch & Learn yet. Now is more important than ever to continue providing opportunities for young women to learn more about careers in manufacturing.
