Straight A's in Insurance: Assess, Ask, Adjust

Topeka, Kan. - School is back in session, but is your insurance ready for the new year? As students head back to the classroom across Kansas, Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt encourages students and parents to assess, ask, and adjust their insurance coverage for the year ahead.

Assess: Review your current policies for any gaps in coverage. Do you know what your current policies cover? Has anything changed since you last purchased or renewed your policy? Do you have a new driver, a new vehicle, or new valuables not currently covered? Do you have a college student that will be moving to a new dorm or apartment?

Ask: Contact your insurance company or agent to make sure your information is current and ask what coverage options and discounts may be available. Students may be eligible for a good student discount resulting in potential savings on your premiums. Remember to inform your auto insurance agent every semester when good grades are achieved.

Adjust: Make changes to your coverage if your circumstances have changed. Consumers may qualify for discounts based on factors such as driving history, student status, safety features, bundling, or other factors. Discounts vary by insurer, so be sure to ask your agent and shop around before adjusting, renewing or buying a new policy.

"Back-to-school savings aren't just for school supplies," said Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt. "Review your policies, check with your insurance agent to make sure your coverage is sufficient, and that you are taking advantage of any eligible discounts."
