Greensboro Transit Agency (GTA) has been awarded a $2.5 million grant to study the Crossmax Purple East-West transit corridor, which extends approximately 12 miles along E. Market Street, Spring Garden Street, W. Wendover Avenue, and Bridford Parkway.
The Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will support planning and design for transit and pedestrian infrastructure improvements along the corridor. Potential improvements identified through the study include transit shelters, enhanced lighting, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, traffic signal modifications, and transit stops.
"We were encouraged by the community's enthusiastic response to the launch of Crossmax Purple two years ago," said Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter. "This grant will allow us to explore opportunities for even greater connectivity between riders and the communities the service supports as we continue advancing next-level transit for Greensboro."
Phase 1 of the study is scheduled to be completed by April 2027, with Phase 2 expected to be completed by August 2030.
