Performing arts take the stage at Brenau this fall

The Department of Music and Department of Dance will host several public performances this fall.
On Oct. 26-27, the Department of Dance will host Days of Dance, an opportunity for high school students to experience the dance program that ends with a performance. The two-day annual workshop features guest teachers and a variety of dance classes, faculty-led workshops, and opportunities for students to audition for Brenau's dance program. The final performance, which is free and open to the public, will be 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in Pearce Auditorium.
On Nov. 1-3, Brenau dancers will perform Selcouth: An Evening of Dance concert.
"It features the senior thesis of dance major Bailey Hefferman, as well as works from student choreographers enrolled in our composition class," Department of Dance Chair Madia Cooper-Ashirifi said. "Also, the concert includes four works from our guest artists: Kevin Jenkins, Quaba Ernest, Jake Bone and Francine Ott."
Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2, and a matinee at 3 p.m. Nov. 3. General admission is $10, seniors and children are $5, and Brenau students, faculty and staff are free with an ID. Tickets are available at the door.
Also in November, the music department will host a BRAHMS concert - or Brenau Recital of Harmonious Music Students. The end-of-semester recital will heavily feature works by Johannes Brahms, as well as pieces by similar composers. It will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in Pearce Auditorium.
Brenau's annual holiday concert is set for Nov. 25. and showcases all parts of the music department, including performances by the Spectrum Singers Ensemble, Vocal Chamber Ensemble, Spectrum Winds, and other collaborative ensembles. This year features a carol sing-along. The performance begins at 7 p.m. in Hosch Theatre.
The music department has grown over the past few years, providing an opportunity for more frequent performances.
"We have more members in our choral ensembles than before I arrived in 2020," Conway said. "We're excited to share music with the community any chance we can."

Conway said the Spectrum Winds ensemble, which is all instrumental, is thriving as well.
The Gainesville Theatre Alliance wrapped up their first show at Brenau this season, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, earlier this month. The next show is A Monster Calls in November at Ed Cabell Theatre at the University of North Georgia-Gainesville campus. The whole GTA season can be found here.
