Chinese Embassy in Somalia Holds Reception Celebrating the 65th Anniversary of China-Somalia Diplomatic Relations

On December 16, the Chinese Embassy in Somalia held a reception to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of China-Somalia Diplomatic Relations. H.E. Wang Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia attended the event, together with the leaders and ranking officials of the Federal Government of Somalia such as H.E. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, H.E. Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Upper House Abdullahi Ali Hersi, H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali and H.E. Minister of Defence Ahmed Moallim Fiqi. 

More than 200 attendees of the reception also included representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations as well as friends from the local community.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang reviewed the development of China-Somalia relationship characteristic of mutual respect, sincerity and common development since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He briefed on the key ideas of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, stressing that China will continue to pursue high-quality development and expand high-standard opening up. Ambassador Wang also said that the next year will witness China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, and the second China-Arab States Summit will be held in China, which raises the expectation that exchanges and cooperation between the two countries will reach new heights.

Prime Minister Barre and other guests spoke highly of Somalia-China relations and commended the opportunities created by the Chinese modernization to Somalia.

Guests of the reception also viewed three photo exhibitions respectively themed "the 65th Anniversary of China-Somalia Diplomatic Relations", "the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the 15th Five-Year Plan", and "the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression". 

The Somali National Television (SNTV) had a live broadcast of the event.
