San Diego, CA - March 5, 2026, a federal grand jury indicted Wayne Fister, aka Wayne Wong, for selling millions of counterfeit U.S. postage stamps. In one interdiction, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted five different packages intended for Fister that together contained more than 1 million counterfeit stamps. Fister is alleged to have procured the counterfeit stamps from a manufacturer in China as part of the revenue fraud scheme.
Fister allegedly used his account on an online marketplace to sell the counterfeit stamps since July 2024. Fister is also accused of using a significant portion of the approximately $6 million in illegal proceeds from the counterfeit stamp scheme to purchase a home in San Diego.
The indictment charges Fister with mail fraud (a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine); selling counterfeit stamps (a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine); and money laundering (a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine).
A complaint or indictment against a person is an allegation. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Since October 2024, U.S. postal inspectors have seized counterfeit stamps worth more than $16 million. The Postal Inspection Service reminds customers to purchase stamps only from official U.S. Postal Service-approved providers.
