Grant program helps strengthen communities, expand opportunities and support local needs

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines or Bank) today announced nearly $25.9 million in grant funding to support 720 not-for-profit and government organizations working every day to make communities across Missouri stronger, more stable and more connected.

The funding comes through the Member Impact Fund, a matching grant program that brings people and partnerships together to make a meaningful difference. By working alongside local financial institutions, the program helps expand access to affordable housing, strengthen community development efforts and address critical needs identified at the local level.

Across Missouri, 956 applications received funding in collaboration with 174 member institutions. For every $1 contributed by a participating member, FHLB Des Moines provided $3 in matching funds, resulting in nearly $6.5 million from members and $19.4 million from FHLB Des Moines, for a total of $25.9 million invested in Missouri communities.

Since launching in 2023, the Member Impact Fund has delivered more than $106 million in grants from FHLB Des Moines, helping generate over $144 million in combined support for affordable housing and community development across the district. Notably, every eligible application submitted has received funding, reflecting the Bank's commitment to partnership, access and ensuring communities have the resources they need to thrive.

"Our Member Impact Fund reflects what's possible when we work together around a shared purpose, supporting the people and places that make our communities home," said Kris Williams, president and chief executive officer of FHLB Des Moines. "Through our members, we're able to extend the reach of local investment and help create real, lasting impact for families, neighborhoods and businesses across our district."
