LADWP Crews Make Progress in Restoring Power after Overnight Wind and Rain

LOS ANGELES (FEBRUARY 18, 2026) - LADWP crews have made significant progress in restoring power to affected customers after strong winds and heavy rain moved across the City overnight.

As of 10:30 A.M., crews restored power to over 11,000 customers, down from approximately 21,000 customers who were affected during the peak of the storm. Currently, approximately 10,000 out of LADWP's 1.5 million customers are without power.

Communities with the largest number of customers affected are portions of Boyle Heights, East Hollywood, Harvard Park, the San Pedro-Harbor area, and Vermont Square in the metro Los Angeles area, and Panorama City and Winnetka in the San Fernando Valley.

LADWP crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. However, downed trees can result in extended outages.

Fallen trees and palm fronds were a large factor in this wind and rain event. Outages caused by fallen trees can take additional time to restore, as tree limbs need to be cleared before work can begin on fixing the power structures. Other complications include potential flooding in multiple underground vaults which need to be located by crews going from vault- to-vault until they identify the source of the problem, before they can pump water out and repairs can take place. Saturated soil and wind conditions during storms can also increase the likelihood of downed or damaged wires.

LADWP reminds the public to NEVER TOUCH A DOWNED or DANGLING WIRE or ANYONE OR ANYTHING in contact with it, and to stay away from puddles and standing water near downed wires. Contact with electrified equipment can result in grave bodily injuries and even death. Always assume a downed wire is still energized with high voltage electricity. Stay away and immediately CALL 9-1-1.
