Construction Activity Prompts Closure of Pope Road at SR 34/US 11E in Hamblen County

Motorists traveling on State Route 34 (U.S. 11E) in Hamblen County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic.

Beginning on Monday, March 30, Pope Road will be permanently closed at State Route 34 (U.S. 11E) to improve traffic flow and accommodate the slopes leading to the railroad. Signage will be in place to notify the public of the closure.

These road construction activities are part of Phase 1 of the State Route 34 (U.S. 11E) widening project. You can learn more about this project here.

This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and "Know Before You Go!" by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. The TDOT SmartWay system provides the latest updates for road construction activity.
