DENTON, TX, Dec. 5 - Following City Council direction, Denton's Parks and Recreation staff is requesting community feedback on three naming applications. The public is invited to share input on each application at the Denton Civic Center (321 E. McKinney St.) on Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. City staff is also accepting input about the naming applications online.
The three applications currently under consideration are:
1. Renaming the Civic Center the "Quakertown Civic Center."
2. Naming the Day Labor Site at 301 Fort Worth Dr. "The Popo Gonzalez Day Labor Site."
3. Renaming the Juneteenth Softball Tournament "The John Royston Juneteenth Softball Tournament."
On occasion, the City of Denton receives requests to name City assets. These requests often come from members of the public who wish to honor individuals by naming a facility in their recognition or memory. City staff may also initiate naming proposals, particularly when new public properties, such as parks, are developed and require a name.
