Parliament, Thursday, 26 December 2024 - The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Supra Mahumapelo, has noted with shock and deep sadness the Azerbaijan airline crash that took place in Kazakhstan, Russia on Wednesday, 25 December. According to media reports 38 people died leaving 29 survivors injured.
Mr Mahumapelo said the committee extends its deepest condolences to the people of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the close relatives of the victims of the airline crash on this severest and unimaginable pain that they endure. The aircraft accident which resulted in the loss of lives and injuries is a shock to the rest of the world.
"It is our hope, trust and belief that the relevant authorities in Azerbaijan will find some answers to this tragedy and hopefully this will go a long way to ease the pain to the affected families in general and Azerbaijan people in particular," said Mr Mahumapelo.
He added: "Based on close political, social and economic relations South Africa enjoys from Azerbaijan, this pain is ours."
