17th Annual Elgin Short Film Festival – Sept. 27, 2025

The Elgin Short Film Festival is set to return for its 17th year on Sept. 27, inviting filmmakers from around the world to compete for top honors at the Hemmens Cultural Center.

Filmmakers may submit live action or animated films 20 minutes or less, including credits, now through Aug. 22 at filmfreeway.com/ElginShortFilmFestival. Films may be submitted even if they have been entered into other festival competitions.

What to Expect at ESFF 2025?

  • Two Categories: Live Action and Animation
  • Next In Finalists: Each category will feature five potential finalists, with the top two, as voted on by the selection committee, making the finals. The next three films in each category will have a chance to compete for a coveted spot in the finals. Details at hemmens.org/esff.
  • Inclusive Submissions: The ESFF welcomes films rated up to the equivalent of an MPAA 'R' rating.
  • Red-Carpet Glamour: Top Finalists will be treated to a red-carpet arrival at the Hemmens Cultural Center, where their films will be showcased on screen at the 1,200-seat theater.
  • Trophies and Cash Prizes: The top three films compete for trophies and cash prizes up to $1,000.

Important Dates

  • Submit films by Aug. 1, 2025, for just a $40 fee
  • All entries must be submitted by Aug. 22, 2025, for a $50 fee
  • Submit films by Aug. 1 for just a $40 fee.
  • Entries submitted after Aug. 1 but no later than Aug. 22 require a $50 fee.
