Arroyo Grande Officially Named a Clean California Community
ARROYO GRANDE, CA - The City of Arroyo Grande has officially earned the unique designation as an official "Clean California Community" from Caltrans' Clean CA initiative. This makes Arroyo Grande one of 30 communities to earn the designation so far in the state.
The designation highlights community organization, Arroyo Grande in Bloom's, role as a leader in California's Zero Litter movement, working to reduce litter and keep communities clean, healthy, and beautiful.
Arroyo Grande in Bloom, a non-profit volunteer organization, is dedicated to enhancing the beauty and vitality of the Arroyo Grande community. The organization coordinates efforts such as planting flowers and trees, removing litter and brush, and maintaining natural resources. Projects are designed to engage volunteers of all ages, abilities, and talents, with the goal of fostering community pride and encouraging widespread participation.
Arroyo Grande in Bloom, with the support of many volunteers and neighbors, has implemented long-term zero-litter policies and projects that promote litter prevention, beautification, and environmental enhancement.
"This designation is a reflection of the incredible work of Arroyo Grande in Bloom, supported by the City and our community," said Matthew Downing, City Manager. "We are grateful for their leadership and proud to partner in keeping Arroyo Grande clean, beautiful, and welcoming for all."
The Clean California Community Designation Program is part of the State of California's $1.2 billion Clean California initiative, which was launched in 2021 by Caltrans to clean up, reclaim, transform, and beautify public spaces statewide. The program was developed in partnership with Caltrans, Keep America Beautiful and Keep California Beautiful.
To earn the Clean California designation, Arroyo Grande in Bloom, in partnership with the City of Arroyo Grande, completed at least 10 of 15 criteria to clean up and beautify the City, including signing the Clean California pledge letter, creating an advisory body, conducting a thorough city wide litter assessment, organizing regular community cleanups, establishment of metrics and measures to regularly track our community's progress, placement of anti-littering infrastructure in key locations throughout the city, creating a long term plan to ensure the sustainability of our
efforts, scheduling collection drives for hard to recycle or bulky items, conducting greening and beautification activities on a regular basis and providing for cigarette litter receptacles.
