DENVER - March 26, 2026 - Denver International Airport (DEN) will begin work on March 29, 2026 to improve pedestrian safety and the overall customer experience at Terminal West and East, outside on Level 5 (Commercial Ground Transportation drop-off/ pick-up). Details of the construction phasing are below. All work is scheduled to be done by Labor Day, 2026.
Improvements
The improvements align with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and support overall safety by creating more noticeable crosswalks that also serve as roadway humps to slow vehicle traffic. The raised crosswalks will allow those in wheelchairs, or who use other mobility devices, easier access between pedestrian islands and the curb.
Safety is DEN's top priority and this effort not only supports DEN's commitment to maintain a safe environment, but it also aligns with DEN's Vision 100 pillar of maintaining what we have by preserving and enhancing our infrastructure to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for passengers.
Timing and Impact
Phase 1:
From March 29, 2026, until July of 2026, crews will construct raised crosswalks that connect the curbside to pedestrian pick-up/ drop-off islands that serve various commercial vehicles such as rental car and hotel shuttles, DEN and off-site parking shuttles, limousines and taxis at Terminal West, on Level 5.
During construction on Level 5 of Terminal West, certain passengers will be re-directed to Level 5 of Terminal East depending on their ground transportation choice.
Phase 2:
The same work will be taking place at Terminal East and is anticipated to commence at the end of June or early July (coinciding with the end of Phase 1) with expected completion prior to Labor Day weekend.
As construction progresses to Terminal East, some passengers will be redirected to Terminal West.
Construction will occur in phases and result in partial lane closures on Level 5. Phasing the construction timeline will minimize impacts to traffic.
Real Time Updates
Construction schedules are dynamic and can be impacted by various unforeseen impacts including weather. Updates on specific impacts will be available at https://www.flydenver.com/crosswalk-construction/.
Wayfinding signage will be in place both inside and outside the Terminal and DEN staff members will be available to answer questions. Travelers should follow signage information and the direction of airport staff members.
