NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (December 4, 2025) - Senior staff from Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health in New Brunswick recently volunteered their time to prepare food and assemble sandwiches for Elijah's Promise, a local nonprofit.
This effort came shortly after RWJBarnabas Health provided a $70,000 emergency grant to Elijah's Promise to provide additional meals during a recent period when Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds were delayed.
In recognition of the health provider's support and volunteerism, Michelle Wilson, the Executive Director of Elijah's Promise, presented Alan Lee, president of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, with the first "Cheffy Award" as a token of appreciation.
The collaborative volunteer effort followed a successful weekend "Sandwichfest" organized by Elijah's Promise. The goal of the 24-hour event was to prepare 8,000 sandwiches for distribution. But with the help of Rutgers student-athletes and other volunteers, the organization exceeded its target, producing more than 10,000 sandwiches to feed the hungry.
