On April 16, Ambassador Zhou Jian hosted a press briefing on U.S. abuse of tariffs at his residence, with over 20 participants attending, including journalists from the Fiji Sun, the Fiji Times, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji TV, Fiji Village, Mai TV, Fiji Live, Xinhua News Agency, and scholars from the University of the South Pacific, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Zhou comprehensively explained China's stance on the U.S.'s unjust tariff policies, exposing their absurdity, selfishness, and detrimental impact. He called on Fiji and the international community to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, safeguard the multilateral trading system, and reject unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying.
Following the presentation, Ambassador Zhou engaged in an interactive Q&A session with journalists, addressing topics such as U.S. tariff policies and China-Fiji economic cooperation.
The next day, Fijian media widely covered the briefing, applauding China's efforts to uphold the shared interests of the international community. Reports expressed optimism for expanded China-Fiji collaboration to counter the uncertainties posed by U.S. tariff policies.
