NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
LAS 35735
UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA SOUTHEAST

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA SOUTHEAST

PROJECT NAME: LAS 35735

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Sitka Harbor on Japonski Island, Sitka Alaska adjacent to University of Alaska managed uplands.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Section 35, Township 55 South, Range 63 East, Copper River Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is requesting a 5-year land use permit for the use of a gangway ramp mooring system. The ramp would consist of one 4'x80' strut with gangway, one 4'x80' strut without a gangway, and one 4'x130' strut with gangway connecting the two (4'x80') together. The gangway ramp would be secured using twelve 2,000 lbs. anchors, eight rock bolts, two shore ties, and would have two (4'x100'; 4'x164') wave attenuators. The proposed permit site is located within the boundaries of aquatic farm lease site ADL 234201 and will be used to provide moorage to the barge associated with this lease. If the aquatic farm lease does not get authorized, the dock will be used for other educational purposes associated with UAS's Applied Fisheries Program, such as classes involving skiff operation, outboard maintenance, cold water survival, SCUBA diving, and other UAS vessels.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
Start: January 1, 2026
End: December 31, 2030

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: November 5, 2025

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southeast Regional Land Office, 400 Willoughby Avenue/PO Box 111020, Juneau, AK 99811-1020 on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
