Bastyr University NWCCU Show Cause Sanction Removed

Bastyr University was formally notified by Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) that it has removed the Show Cause sanction from the university's accreditation status. The notification was delivered on Friday February 6, 2026.

A financial turnaround effort is underway at Bastyr University. Six months ago, the university's leaders and board of trustees began implementation of a plan for financial sustainability. Key milestones to date include:

1. Accreditation progress: Rescission of the Show Cause sanction from NWCCU. This is an important milestone because it empowers administrative and academic leaders to return their full focus to Bastyr University's academic mission.
2. Financial stabilization and planning: The university's administrative leadership implemented a revenue-realistic financial model. The model is grounded in current enrollment trends, expense controls, and conservative forecasting. The result is a path to financial sustainability.

Organizational restructuring: With support from the board, Bastyr University President Dr. Joe Pizzorno, and Bastyr University Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Randy Frisch selectively reduced the university's workforce to better align with the size of the university today and protect its brain trust for the future.
4. Cash flow and financial commitments: Operational needs are actively managed. Bastyr University Advancement continues to secure philanthropic and public partnerships that strengthen the university's foundation for the year ahead.
