Pickett Reappointed to Serve as Republican Chair of the House Insurance Committee

Jan. 08, 2025

HARRISBURG - Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming) has been reappointed to serve as Republican chair of the Insurance Committee for the 2025-26 Legislative Session in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Pickett was first appointed to chair the committee in 2013.

The Insurance Committee helps to oversee the Insurance Department and ensures any legislation pertaining to insurance matters under consideration in the House is studied with extreme care, especially regarding its potential impact on consumers.

"Our committee acts as a watchdog for Pennsylvania consumers and strives to develop fair and honest insurance-related policies with them in mind," Pickett said. "I believe my many years of experience on the committee are a great advantage and I look forward to working with my colleagues during the new term."

Issues that come before the committee may include auto, health, homeowners and life insurance; insurance fraud prevention; mental health parity; the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP); and more.

Pickett and other House members took the oath of office for the new session on Jan. 7. In addition to the House Insurance Committee, she was appointed to serve on the following House standing committees: Committee on Committees (Republican chair), Rules, and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development.

Committees are a cornerstone of the legislative process. All bills are assigned to a standing committee to undergo review. Committees may hold hearings on legislation, consider amendments to pending bills and report them to the full House for a vote.
