AHECB Appoints New ADHE Director Dr. Brett Powell

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB) has named Dr. Brett Powell the new director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE).

Powell comes from Ouachita Baptist University (OBU), where he served as their Vice President for Administrative Services since 2006. Prior to that, he was the Associate Vice Chancellor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Director of Financial Services at the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Upon confirmation by the Governor, Powell will assume his new position at ADHE on February 9, 2015.

"I'm delighted with the selection of Dr. Powell to be the new director of Higher Education," said Governor Asa Hutchinson. "I'm pleased with the choice, and I'm pleased with the way the board conducted the selection process. I have no doubt that Dr. Powell will do a great job leading a department so crucial to the future of Arkansas."

Powell's appointment follows a national search led by AHECB Chairman Bob Crafton. The search was initiated when current Director Shane Broadway announced that he had accepted the position of Vice President for Governmental Relations for the Arkansas State University System.
