Hillside Public Schools and Scholastic Host 2025 R.E.A.L. Read Festival

Hillside Public Schools, in collaboration with Scholastic, successfully hosted the 2025 R.E.A.L. Read Festival. The event took place at Woodfield Stadium and across Hillside Public Schools, bringing together hundreds of students, educators, and families for a day filled with reading activities, author visits, and interactive workshops to celebrate literacy and community engagement.

Grounded in Scholastic R.E.A.L. (Read, Excel, Achieve, Lead), a literacy-based mentoring program, the R.E.A.L. Read Festival was created to foster a love for reading among students. Students participated in interactive literacy activities and had the opportunity to interact with community members, who served as guest mentors and visited classrooms to conduct read-alouds.

Scholastic R.E.A.L. provides schools, districts, public libraries and organizations with the resources to build successful mentoring programs that support a culture of literacy. In addition to introducing students to community role-models, children can build their own home libraries with take-home books and families can learn new ways to support literacy at home with companion guides.The initiative supports academic success, boosts students' confidence, and strengthens their connection to the community.

Additionally, the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™ shows that having adults in a child's life who prioritize reading is key to developing frequent readers - making programs like Scholastic R.E.A.L. more important than ever. Scholastic was proud to support Hillside Public Schools in this endeavor and to continue supporting educational initiatives that inspire and empower young readers.
