U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan Dom Restuccia has closed a $3,089,000 loan and $2,225,000 grant for sewer system upgrades in the city of Standish.
"This investment will ensure clean, reliable drinking water for the people of Standish," said Restuccia. "Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, USDA Rural Development is committed to strengthening rural Michigan."
USDA funding will help the city rehabilitate structurally deficient gravity sewer main lines and manholes, as well as improving valves and pumps through the system. The project will increase long term resiliency by reducing wastewater inflow into the ground surrounding the sewer main lines.
This project is funded through USDA Rural Development's Water and Environmental Programs , which focus on rural water and waste infrastructure needs of communities with populations of 10,000 or less. The total project cost is $5,614,000 with the recipient providing $300,000. The improvements will help provide safe and reliable sewer system infrastructure for more than 1,300 residents.
