Vice-Minister Mitkus met with the newly appointed Ambassadors of Luxembourg and Portugal to Lithuania

Today, on 10 February, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigitas Mitkus met with the recently instated ambassadors to Lithuania: Peggy Frantzen, the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and José Fernando Alves Da Costa Pereira, the Ambassador of the Portuguese Republic.

Today, on 10 February, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigitas Mitkus met with the recently instated ambassadors to Lithuania: Peggy Frantzen, the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and José Fernando Alves Da Costa Pereira, the Ambassador of the Portuguese Republic.

The meeting with the ambassadors of Luxembourg and Portugal focused on bilateral cooperation, the security situation in the region, support for Ukraine, negotiations on the European Union's (EU) Multiannual Financial Perspective, and Lithuania's upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU. Mitkus presented Lithuania's position regarding the European Commission's Communication on Eastern Border Regions, highlighting the economic, financial, social, and security challenges facing Lithuania and other countries in the region.

The Vice-Minister thanked the Ambassador of Luxembourg for the contribution of the Luxembourg Armed Forces to the NATO Multinational Battlegroup in Lithuania and expressed his readiness to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture, economy, and finance.

Together with the new Ambassador of Portugal, Mitkus additionally discussed the possibilities of deepening cooperation between Lithuania and Portugal in the fields of economy, defence, and culture. The Vice-Minister thanked Portugal for its contribution to the security of Lithuania and the Baltic region.
The Ambassador of Luxembourg, Frantzen, who resides in Warsaw, and the Ambassador of Portugal, Pereira, who resides in Lisbon, presented their letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Lithuania on 10 February 2026.
