EIB completes its fifth EUR EARN offering of the year with a successful new 10y Climate Awareness benchmark transaction

  • Transaction more than 7 times oversubscribed and featuring over 250-line items
  • With this transaction, EIB's total issuance of green and sustainability bonds reached EUR 145bn

On Tuesday 2nd of June, the European Investment Bank ('EIB') priced a new EUR 5bn 10-year Climate Awareness EARN benchmark due 15th July 2036. The bond pays an annual coupon of 3.125% and has an issue price of 99.256%, providing a spread of +25.9bps over the Bund 2.900% due 15th February 2036.

The mandate for the transaction was announced on Monday 1st of June. Books formally opened the following day with price guidance at mid-swaps +24bps area. Mid-morning, on the back of an orderbook exceeding EUR 30bn (incl. EUR 2.5bn JLM interest), the spread was set at mid-swaps +22bps, 2bps inside initial guidance. The order book subsequently closed in excess of EUR 35bn (incl. EUR 2.5bn JLM interest) and the transaction size was set at EUR5bn.

Including this transaction, the EIB has now completed over EUR 46bn of bond issuance to date, equating to around 77% of its EUR 60bn funding program for 2026.
