A group of clinicians, residents and students from the Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Medicine (CUSOM) offered their latest research during an osteopathic family medicine conference in Durham.

The work was presented as part of a two-hour research poster session competition during the annual meeting of the N.C. Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Medicine Physicians (NC ACOFP) on Aug. 9.

Campbell medicalstudents and clinicians presented 35 posters, including case studies and original research, as well as quality improvement or education projects.

"It's a nice blend between a scientific session, where students and residents are presenting, and a clinical meeting," Dr. Terri Hamrick said of the Durham conference.

Hamrick is the associate dean for Research and chair and professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Campbell.

Family Medicineassistant professorDr. Robert Agnello, chairofFamily Medicine at CUSOM,is a member of the NCS-ACOFP board. Dr. Jennifer Hill, a CUSOM alumnus and core faculty member with the Harnett Health Family Medicine Residency program, is president-elect
The Family Physicians Society, the group's website says, is dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the standards of family practice in the field of osteopathic medicine.

The society partners with osteopathic family physicians from around the state to fulfill its mission statement, including, for example, serving as leaders in the field of family practice within the osteopathic profession and providing ongoing educational opportunities for the training and advancement of family physicians in osteopathic medicine, the website says.

"I encourage students to present at this meeting," says Hamrick.
The meeting of family physicians is relatively small, she says, and the clinicians are engaged and excited to share their knowledge and offer advice.

"It's a very positive experience for the students," Hamrick said of the meeting and poster competition.
