Green Assist: Recovering and repurposing composite waste

The Belgian company Reprocover , which specialises in creating and manufacturing ready-to-use products from recycled materials, is committed to further reduce its environmental impact. To achieve this, Reprocover sought Green Assist support to upscale its innovative solution for recycling composite waste.

Building on its first success in 2022 of recycling 600 tonnes of composite waste, the project targets the recycling of an additional 10,000 tonnes of waste currently being disposed of in landfills. Of these, 5,000 tonnes of waste are aimed to be repurposed into eco-friendly products such as cable gutters, access chambers and truck bumpers; and another 5,000 tonnes for recycled material for other industries, all through the development of an innovative solution. These materials include raw material, recycled fibre and recycled filler through the development of an innovative solution. These products can then be used as primary materials to produce lids and gutters, for pedestrian and road crossings, and materials prepared for other companies including components for trains, car parts and electrical isolation parts.

Until recently, Reprocover's customers have relied solely on virgin materials for production. However, this is set to change as Reprocover plans to introduce recycled materials into their supply chain. The upcoming shift to include recycled materials is expected to reduce waste and emissions, contributing to the circular economy and supporting industry-wide environmental sustainability efforts.

As part of the strategy to bring its solution to market, Reprocover's team reached out to Green Assist for help, and so received free specified support from December 2023 to April 2024. Through the Green Assist Roster of Experts, a hand-picked expert provided the necessary advisory support to successfully implement the project.

One way in which Green Assist made a significant contribution was by offering business modelling support, which included a thorough assessment of demand, prices and revenue. As such, Green Assist's support helped Reprocover to find new market opportunities.

Green Assist then provided investment modelling services, which involved validating both capital and operating expenditures. This ensured that the project's financial planning was sound, thereby reducing financial risks.

Green Assist also helped the project team to develop a global sales strategy to ensure that the project was able to achieve success in the marketplace. This included carrying out a preliminary assessment of the possibility of accessing the carbon market to receive carbon finance. Green Assist also advised Reprocover on how to highlight the project's quality to attract financial support.

Charles Göbbels, managing director at Reprocover, was pleased with Green Assist's support, noting:

'I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of the administrative process. More importantly, the international expert provided invaluable assistance in a short period. If I have another idea in the future, I won't hesitate to seek their help again.'

Green Assist aims to build a pipeline for high-impact green investment projects in sectors related to biodiversity, natural capital and circular economy, as well as in non-environmental sectors.
