Need for clear commitment and real support for the cities forming part of the '100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030' mission, which have already received the EU mission label

Priority question for written answer P-000077/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Borja Giménez Larraz (PPE)

When the Commission President presented the Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities aimed at making 100 European cities climate-neutral by 2030, a funding agreement and priority access to European funds were announced. The aim was to ensure that the projects would not be left without the necessary resources.

However, despite this commitment and the ambitious plans developed by the cities that have received the EU mission label, there is still a lack of clarity and certainty about actual access to the promised funds. This situation puts the viability of the projects led by these cities at risk.

In light of the above:

  • 1.What specific measures will the Commission take to guarantee priority access to European funds for cities that have obtained the EU mission label and to ensure that the commitment announced by its President is actually fulfilled?
  • 2.More than a year has passed since these cities were awarded the EU mission label and they are yet to receive any funds whatsoever. In view of this, what is the Commission's timetable for allocating the relevant funds to these cities?
