Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Releases Statement Against the So-Called "No Rogue Rulings Act"
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released the following statement against H.R. 1526, the so-called "No Rogue Rulings Act:"
"As an attorney, I am so deeply disturbed by the Administration's growing pattern of attacking and undermining the integrity of our court system. This sets a perilous precedent as our judicial system exists as a safeguard against executive overreach, and limiting its power weakens the checks and balances that our Constitution relies upon.
The legislation brought before us today directly responds to the legal setbacks President Trump has faced in court. But instead of addressing the legality of his actions against the American people, the bill seeks to silence the courts by preventing federal judges from issuing nationwide injunctions, even when an unconstitutional action harms an entire group of people. If this were in practice during Brown v. Board of Education, in which the Supreme Court struck down racial segregation in public schools across the country, only the one plaintiff challenging segregation in Topeka, Kansas would have benefited from the decision. It makes no sense.
In the face of unprecedented criticism and threats toward our federal judges by the Administration and now, disappointingly, the House Majority, I strongly agree with Chief Justice John Roberts that our country's independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for and work to steadfastly defend."
