DENVER - Following its annual budget priorities session this month, the Denver City Council has sent a letter to Mayor Mike Johnston outlining the goals and priorities it would like reflected in his 2027 proposed budget. The goals reflect the Council's commitment to developing a responsible, community-centered budget amid fiscal constraints.
"Our job is to ensure the budget reflects the values of Denver residents, even in difficult financial years," said Council President Amanda P. Sandoval. "This letter represents our shared commitment to thoughtful decision making and to working collaboratively with the mayor's administration as the 2027 budget takes shape."
Council President Pro Tempore Diana Romero Campbell added, "Every Council member cares deeply about the people of Denver. These priorities help ensure that city agencies have the resources they need to deliver the services our communities rely on. We look forward to continued partnership throughout this process."
The letter identifies broad areas that will guide the Council's role throughout the budget process.
The 2027 budget priorities include the following categories:
The mayor must submit his proposed budget to the Council on or before September 15, as required by the City Charter.
