Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) Celebrates 2025 Marked by Passenger Growth, New Routes, and Community Impact

GREEN, OH - Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) closed 2025 with 938,814 total commercial passengers, surpassing its original forecast of 925,000 travelers and marking one of the strongest years since 2017.

Passenger activity in 2025 represented a 23.54% increase over 2024 and a 12.52% increase compared to pre-pandemic 2019 levels, underscoring sustained demand for air travel in the region and the success of CAK's air service development strategy.

"This exciting growth reflects the confidence airlines and travelers continue to place in the Akron-Canton Airport," said Ren Camacho, CAK President and CEO. "Our community has shown up in a big way, and our airline partners responded with expanded service that gives Northeast Ohio travelers more nonstop options than ever before."

The significant increase in passenger traffic was driven largely by major air service announcements and expansions, including:

  • Breeze Airways' selection of CAK as its first Midwest crew base, bringing three stationed Airbus A220 aircraft to the airport
  • Seven new nonstop routes launched in 2025:
    • Allegiant Air: Jacksonville (JAX) and Destin/Fort Walton Beach (VPS)
    • American Airlines: Chicago O'Hare (ORD)
    • Breeze Airways: Wilmington (ILM), Palm Beach (PBI), Jacksonville (JAX), Daytona Beach (DAB), and Fort Lauderdale (FLL)
  • United Airlines added a fourth daily flight to Chicago O'Hare, strengthening connectivity to a key global hub

Looking Ahead to 2026

Momentum continues into 2026 with additional service already announced:

  • Breeze Airways launching nonstop service to Savannah (SAV) in May 2026
  • American Airlines adding a fifth daily frequency to Charlotte (CLT) in June 2026

"These service additions strengthen CAK's role as Northeast Ohio's preferred airport offering a convenient, easy-to-use experience while expanding access to the leisure and business destinations our community values most," said Camacho. "We are deeply grateful to our airline partners for investing in our region, to our dedicated staff for delivering an exceptional airport experience every day, and to the travelers who continue to fly CAK as their airport of choice."

Notable Milestones Beyond Air Service

In addition to passenger growth and route expansion, Akron-Canton Airport achieved several important milestones in 2025 that reinforced its commitment to accessibility, community, and long-term growth, including:

  • Unveiling a modernized Sensory Room in partnership with Wolff & Phan Autism Center, enhancing the travel experience for passengers with sensory sensitivities

  • Launching a Strategic Three-Year Plan to guide future development, customer experience, and financial sustainability
  • Partnering with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Stark County to gift free books to traveling children, promoting early literacy
  • Welcoming Aultman Health System's new AultWorks Occupational Medicine Center, expanding on-site healthcare services to the local community
  • Maintaining Airport Operating Certificate with zero discrepancies, TSA comprehensive inspection with no civil penalties, and earning a perfect score on the FAA's Part 139 certification inspection covering all aspects of airside safety and compliance
