(Washington, DC) - On Thursday, April 9 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join the Department of General Services (DGS), the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Former DC First Lady and Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) Founder and CEO Cora Masters Barry, and members of the community to mark a major construction milestone in the SETLC expansion with a ceremonial bridge beam signing. This event marks the placement of the final structural beam in a 164-foot-long bridge over Oxon Run stream that will connect the existing center to the new facility, uniting the campus and expanding access for DC residents.
This $23 million investment will expand the SETLC to include six outdoor hard courts, one outdoor clay-tech court, four new outdoor U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) courts, three new indoor USTA courts, and four pickleball courts, as well as an event plaza, playground, parking area, and outdoor shade structure. This expansion, which is expected to be completed in Summer 2026, will establish the SETLC as a premier destination tennis campus in the District of Columbia, capable of hosting USTA-sanctioned international junior tournaments.
This project underscores Mayor Bowser's continued investment in world-class recreation spaces East of the River and expanded access to athletics for residents of all ages, right here in the Sports Capital.
