NWTC showcases student talent through “Master of Their Craft” competition

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) Marinette campus will host its annual "Master of Their Craft" competition this month, highlighting the skills and talent of students preparing for careers in skilled trades and engineering fields.

The multi-day event brings together students, industry professionals, and the community to showcase hands-on training and real-world application-while introducing a new Trades Showcase designed to connect students with local employers.

"Master of Their Craft is more than a competition-it's a celebration of our students' skills and a testament to the impact of hands-on learning," said Cindy Bailey, K-12 Pathways and Rural Community Impact director at NWTC. "This year, the addition of the Trades Showcase expands that experience, connecting students and community members with local employers and highlighting the vital role skilled trades play in strengthening our workforce."

The public is invited to attend the Trades Showcase on April 23, where students and community members can explore career opportunities and engage directly with industry professionals.

This year's event schedule entails:

  • Electro-Mechanical & Automation Engineering Technology LIVE Wiring Competition (April 23): Students will compete in a fast-paced Automation Wiring Challenge-racing to wire a schematic with components like motor starts, prox switches, and relays. The public is welcome to come and view the competition from 11:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. at the NWTC Marinette campus Tech Hall.
  • CNC Machine Tool Skills & Precision and Welding Art Competition Judging (April 23): Students will showcase projects that demonstrate their technical skills and progression throughout the academic year. Projects will be judged by local industry professionals and displayed in the Eagle Event Center beginning April 23 at 11 a.m., remaining open through April 30 during normal campus hours.
  • Trades Showcase (April 23): New this year and open to the community, this year's incorporation of the Trades Showcase allows participants to meet local industry professionals and learn about career opportunities available in our region. Industry representatives will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. through the campus.

Winners from each competition will be recognized at an awards ceremony on April 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Eagle Event Center. The public is welcome to attend.

"Events like this give students the opportunity to demonstrate their skills while connecting directly with the industries they will soon enter," Bailey said.

NWTC Marinette's "Master of Their Craft" reflects the college's commitment to hands-on training and workforce development-preparing students for in-demand careers while strengthening the region's talent pipeline.
