Traffic Shifts Scheduled This Week for I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project

MACON-BIBB COUNTY - Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will continue construction activities next week as part of the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project in Macon-Bibb County.

Weather and on-site conditions permitting, motorists should expect two overnight traffic shifts beginning Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Friday, November 6, beginning at 9 p.m.

  • Northbound traffic on I-75 will shift left onto newly paved temporary lanes between Mileposts 165 and 166.

Saturday, November 7, beginning at 9 p.m.

  • Westbound traffic on I-16 will shift left onto newly paved lanes between Mileposts 1 and 3.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, reduce speeds and remain alert while traveling through the work zone. Drivers should allow extra time for their commutes and follow all posted signs and directions from construction crews.

All work is weather permitting and subject to change based on on-site conditions.

The I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project is a $620 million safety and mobility megaproject. With its massive scope to widen and reconstruct I-16, I-75 and their interchange in Macon-Bibb, this project is being delivered in seven design and construction phases that will continue through 2030. When complete, new CD lanes, additional interstate lanes, new interstate on-and off-ramps, upgrades to 11 bridges, new walls, upgraded drainage systems, etc. will deliver safer and improved mobility for Macon-Bibb's local commuters and businesses, regional travelers and commercial freight from the Georgia southern coast to destinations within the state and throughout the U.S.

Advisory: Dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
