ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released a statement ahead of President Trump's alleged deadline on negotiations to end the war in Iran:
"While joint US-Israel operations have degraded Iran's military capabilities, the President has yet to provide Congress or the American people with a plan to end this conflict, lower energy prices and bring peace to the region.
"Ahead of tonight's alleged deadline, I am deeply concerned by the President's reckless threat of major escalation with Iran, given the profound risks. This war has cost taxpayers billions of dollars every day as energy costs continue to rise, threatening to reach historic highs and crush families already facing a cost-of-living crisis. Our brave servicemembers face increasing threats and we risk losing more American lives. The American people deserve a clear strategy to avoid greater economic pain and further loss of our military servicemembers.
"For decades, Iranian leaders have brutally murdered and repressed their own people, defied diplomacy and continued to seek to obtain a nuclear weapon. While the U.S. must remain ready to act to prevent the existential threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, for the sake of our allies, our national security and global stability, it is unclear that the President's current strategy will achieve that goal without causing irreparable damage."
