BACKGROUND

In late 2024, Puget Sound Energy asked the commission to adjust its electric rates in Docket UE-240729. For electricity, the company requested a $4.1 million increase, or 0.14%, which would raise the average household bill by about 18 cents a month.

PSE also proposed changes to how it calculates natural gas rates under its Greenhouse Gas Cap and Investment Adjustment program in Docket UG-240884. These changes affect how PSE handles revenues from the Climate Commitment Act, which in turn impacts customer rates.

A settlement agreement covering all issues in this docket has been filed with the commission. The commission will hold one public comment hearing that will allow time for comments on both dockets. More information about each docket is available on the commission's website.

Bellevue-based Puget Sound Energy provides electric service to more than 1.2 million customers across eight Washington counties: Island, King, Kitsap, Kittitas, Pierce, Skagit, Thurston, and Whatcom. PSE also supplies natural gas service to over 900,000 customers in six Washington counties: King, Kittitas, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, and Thurston.

The UTC is the state agency that regulates private, investor-owned electric and natural gas utilities in Washington. It is the commission's responsibility to ensure regulated companies provide safe and reliable service to customers at reasonable rates, while allowing them the opportunity to earn a fair profit.
