City Council seats for Districts 1, 2 and 5 were scheduled for election this year. Because the incumbents in Districts 1 (Todd Rogers) and 5 (Cassandra Chase) were the only candidates to file, those seats may be filled by appointment rather than election. Candidates were included on the ballot for residents in District 2 only.
As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, over 2,600 Lakewood ballots have been counted by the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters.
The County continues to count ballots and is tentatively scheduled to report the first ballot counting update between 4 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3.
Below are the initial vote counts and percentages for each candidate in the District 2 election. These numbers reflect the Vote by Mail ballots and Vote Center ballots cast before Election Day.
• Carlos Aguilar: 9.99% (265 votes)
• Manuel Jimenez: 12.48% (331 votes)
• Ahmed Rafi: 9.65% (256 votes)
• Laura Sanchez-Ramirez: 15.80% (419 votes)
• Rudy Villareal: 52.07% (1,381 votes)
When Vote Centers close on Election Day, ballots are transported by Sheriff's Deputies to the Ballot Processing Center to be counted. Vote by Mail ballots received within seven days from Election Day, as well as Conditional Voter Registration and Provisional Ballots cast on Election Day, are added to the tally once processed and verified.
Post-Election night updates are reported daily between 4 and 5 p.m. and the County is scheduled to certify election results on Friday, June 26, 2026. The City of Lakewood will include an update of the results each week on this page and in the Lakewood Connect eMagazine. (See past issues and subscribe to the eMagazine.)
NOTE: This is a General Election with no runoff. The candidate receiving the most votes in each district will be elected to a four-year term. Residents in Districts 3 and 4 will elect council members in 2028.
