Imagine Cup 2026: Where students build what’s next

For more than two decades, Imagine Cup has highlighted the journeys of student founders, stories of projects that grew into startups, or breakthroughs that gained recognition, and of teams that went on to shape what's next. Now it's your turn: registration for Imagine Cup 2026 is open.

This year, Imagine Cup is designed to meet student founders wherever they are in their journey.

  • Scale is for ventures already gaining traction, with users, or revenue. The World Champion will earn $100,000 USD*, mentorship with Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, and opportunities for deeper partnership with Microsoft for Startups.
  • Launch is for teams building their foundation, testing prototypes, refining their Minimum Viable Product (MVP), or preparing for market. The winning team will receive $50,000 USD* and continued visibility within the Microsoft ecosystem.

No matter your starting point, Imagine Cup gives you the tools, mentorship, and credibility to move further, faster.

In 2026, students may choose to tackle opportunities in:

Cybersecurity: systems that outsmart threats and strengthen digital trust.

Education: technology that improves teaching and learning.

Financial Services: AI that builds trust and expands access.

Health and Life Sciences: tools that connect care and accelerate research.

Retail and Consumer Goods: solutions that make commerce smarter and more personal.

Or, carve your own path. The challenge is yours to define.

Imagine Cup is more than a prize, it's a chance to be part of a community where students turn bold beginnings into lasting startups. Along the way, you'll unlock Azure credits, engage with expert-led training, and connect with mentors who understand what it takes to build for institutions and industries.

Start your Imagine Cup journey today - register now!

*Open only to enrolled high-school or college/university students 18+. For additional eligibility criteria, round start/end dates, and detailed instructions on how to participate, see the Imagine Cup Official Rules and Regulations.
