Shepherd University Forms Partnership to Advance Photobiomodulation Research

Shepherd University has formalized a strategic partnership with the Foundation for Photobiomodulation Research (PBM Foundation) to expand research, education, and innovation in photobiomodulation (PBM), an emerging therapy that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular function. Researchers are studying PBM's potential applications across a range of medical and neurological conditions.

The partnership was established through a memorandum of understanding between the PBM Foundation and the Shepherd Entrepreneurship and Research Corporation (SERC). It will support collaborative research, professional education, conferences, grants, scholarships, workshops, and public outreach.

The agreement builds on the longstanding relationship between the PBM Foundation and Shepherd University's Center of Excellence for Photobiomodulation while creating new opportunities through SERC's research and administrative infrastructure.

"This partnership reflects Shepherd University's commitment to advancing innovative research while creating meaningful opportunities for collaboration that extend beyond our campus," said Dr. Jennifer Flora, executive director of SERC and director of the Suzanne Shipley Wellness Center.

The PBM Foundation will remain an independent organization while recognizing Shepherd University, the Center of Excellence for Photobiomodulation, and SERC as its principal academic and research partners. SERC will serve as the primary liaison and provide research administration, project management, financial oversight, and operational support.

Potential initiatives include externally funded research, continuing education programs, scientific conferences, scholarships, workshops, and community outreach. Through these efforts, the partnership will promote interdisciplinary collaboration, scientific discovery, and broader access to PBM education and research.
