NYT Cooking Hires Its First Creative Director

We're thrilled to announce that Christopher Martinez is joining Cooking as our first creative director, the principal who will lead, refine and elevate our design direction and process.

Chris will report to us - a structure that speaks to the unique nature of this senior role. He'll support Cooking at large and help us steer it to new heights, making it ever more distinctive, delightful, engaging and useful for audiences across platforms. He'll create and coordinate Cooking's visual systems with teams across The Times , including Brand Identity, Marketing, Product Design, Advertising and Commerce. And he'll build stronger brand cohesion for Cooking in all its manifestations, both on- and off-platform, collaborating with our video team, photo editors and many others.

He was most recently an executive creative director at Amazon, where he led vision and execution for marketing campaigns across Amazon.com, working across the organization and directing large, cross-functional teams of visual/UX designers, generative A.I. technologists, art directors, production and copy writers. He began his career in magazines, including Esquire and T, where he was a senior art director.

Chris, who grew up in New Orleans, now lives with his family in Brooklyn. He starts on Monday. Please join us in welcoming him back to The Times!
