Fireworks Hours and Regulations

Fireworks sales tents are now operational around the city. Cedar Rapids Police, Fire, Parks and Recreation, and Solid Waste have released information about safe fireworks use.
State law mandates that fireworks are legal to use on:
July 3, 9am-10pm
July 4, 9am-11pm
Please refrain from lighting them off outside those times.
Cedar Rapids Fire Department staff are responsible for inspecting fireworks sales locations and issuing permits to operate to those vendors.
They also respond to calls for service due to injuries and fires related to the use of fireworks.
Cedar Rapids Police respond to calls for service related to the illegal discharge of fireworks and can cite those found in the act of illegally setting off fireworks.
Fireworks are only authorized for use on private property you own or have permission to use. Public spaces like streets and parks are not authorized spaces for fireworks.
In 2023, Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreations staff cleared out 56 bins of fireworks trash and repaired $3,000 of damage caused by their use. Please help keep our parks safe and clean.
If you use fireworks appropriately, please dispose of the trash they create safely. Thoroughly soak all debris and put it in your Garby cart. (Keep your cart away from your house or garage to prevent accidental fire spread.)
Independence Day is a great time for friends and families to gather and have fun. We want you to remain safe while celebrating.
