UW Music Presents ‘Holiday Joy’ Collaborative Concert Dec. 4

The University of Wyoming Choirs, along with the Symphonic Band and Campus Community Band, will celebrate the sounds of the season with the collaborative concert "Holiday Joy" Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

This festive evening of music features the Laramie Civic Chorus, Bel Canto, Singing Statesmen, Laramie Children's Chorus, Symphonic Band and the Campus Community Band. The groups will be directed by Robert Belser and O'Neil Jones and accompanied by pianists Bryn Catlin, Renato da Silva and Luciano Filizola.

The concert opens with the massed choirs performing the dynamic African carol "Betelehemu," arranged by Barrington Brooks, before the program breaks out into individual ensembles, including the treble choir Bel Canto performing Steven Aldredge's "Midnight Song." Bel Canto and the Singing Statesmen will perform arrangements of the traditional Spanish carol "A La Nanita Nana" and the lively Hannukah folk song "S'vivon," arranged by Joseph Flummerfelt.

A highlight of the evening follows, as the massed choirs and the Symphonic Band join forces for the stirring "Arise, Your Light Has Come" by David Danner.

The audience is then invited to join in "Carol Sing," arranged by John Leavitt, a medley of classic carols led by the massed choirs and the Campus Community Band. The Campus Community Band will then perform an arrangement of the traditional carol "What Child is This?" and a playful rendition of "Secret Agent Santa."

The Laramie Children's Chorus follows with individual pieces as well as the heartwarming "Somewhere in My Memory" with the massed choirs.

The program closes with the massed choirs performing the timeless classics "Silent Night," arranged by Malcolm Sargent, and "Christmas is Coming," arranged by Mack Wilberg.
