Did you know that leaving pet waste on the ground can be harmful to local streams? When it rains, pet waste can wash into storm drains without being filtered. It has harmful bacteria like E. coli and salmonella that can be bad for pets, people, and even fish.
You can help keep bacteria out of local streams! When nature calls, be sure to pick up. Bring pet waste bags with you, scoop the poop into the bag, and throw it in the trash (not in the yard waste bin or compost pile).
It's easy:
In May, if you pledge to pick up after your dog every time, you can get a free pet waste bag dispenser and a dog bandana! Just take the Capital Canine Club Pledge, include your mailing address, and we'll mail you the bag and bandana.
Bandanas are available from May 1-31, 2026, while supplies last.
