Ohio State Fire Marshal Honors the Fallen During Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Nearly 3,000 lives that were lost on Sept. 11, 2001, were remembered this morning during a special ceremony held by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal on its campus in Reynoldsburg.

The ceremony included a moment of silence and the laying of a wreath in remembrance of the 2,977 victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania exactly 24 years ago today.

Ohio State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon joined approximately 100 attendees, including cadets from the Ohio Fire Academy, Division staff, and members of local area fire departments.

"It is vital that, as a nation, we never forget that tragic day 24 years ago and all the lives that were lost and forever impacted," said State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon. "With nearly a quarter century having passed, we as a society run the risk of forgetting the tragedy itself as well as the heroic acts of so many individuals on 9/11. We must never forget, which is why ceremonies like this and others taking place across the country today are so important."

The remembrance ceremony was livestreamed on the State Fire Marshal's Facebook page, where a recording is now available. Photos of the ceremony are also attached.

Earlier in the week, Marshal Reardon, members of the Ohio Fire Academy, and 36 firefighter cadets participated in the planting of 2,977 American flags on the west lawn of the Ohio Statehouse as part of a Sept. 11 memorial.
