Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels on 9-10 October 2025. The event, which will be held for the second time, will bring together high-level representatives of the governments, financial institutions and the private sector of the EU Member States and EU partner countries.
The Global Gateway is a European investment strategy to boost modern and secure links in digital, energy and transport sectors, while also strengthening health, education and research systems in developing partner countries. The plan is to mobilise up to EUR 300 billion in investments between 2021 and 2027.
The Global Gateway Forum, hosted by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, will this year focus on building smart and sustainable connections and boosting global investments.
"The Global Gateway strategy will tie trade and development cooperation closer together in EU action. By building sustainable connections and investing in expertise, we are laying the foundation for both social and economic development in partner countries. The projects involve the private sector, and Finnish businesses possess strong expertise that we want to promote within the EU. The Global Gateway is an opportunity to export Finnish expertise and technology around the world," Minister Tavio says.
In Global Gateway projects, Finland focuses on solutions related to digitalisation, education and the clean energy transition. In Brussels, Minister Tavio will participate in the Forum's high-level discussions on digital connectivity, which is one of Finland's key strengths. The Minister's programme also includes meetings with ministers and stakeholders from other participating countries.
Minister Tavio will also attend the Global Gateway Board meeting to be held in connection with the Forum on 8 October. The Board, made up of high-level representatives of all EU Member States, guides the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy.
