Jury Finds Hamburg Man Guilty of Child Sexual Abuse

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that a jury has found Tyler Wilkinson, 28, of Hamburg, guilty of one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class "D" violent felony) and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class "A" misdemeanor). Jurors rendered their decision yesterday afternoon after more than nine hours of deliberation following a five-day trial.

On multiple occasions between on or about June 1, 2017, and on or about April 30, 2022, the defendant engaged in inappropriate conduct with a child who was less than 17-years-old, and such conduct was likely to be injurious to the physical, mental, and moral welfare of the child. The crimes occurred at locations in the Town of Hamburg. The defendant was known to the child victim.

Between on or about June 1, 2021, and July 31, 2021, at a location in the Town of Hamburg, the defendant subjected another child, who was less than 13-years-old, to sexual contact. The defendant was also known to the second child victim.

Wilkinson faces a maximum of 7 years in prison when he is sentenced before State Supreme Court Justice Sheila A. DiTullio on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. He was held without bail pending sentence. Temporary orders of protection, issued on behalf of the victims, remain in effect.

DA Keane commends Sergeant Howard Widman and Detective Jon Wright of the Town of Hamburg Police Department, New York State Police, Child Advocacy Center at BestSelf Behavioral Health, and victim advocate Nicole Haffa for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Alexander J. Trunfio and Daniel J. Mattle of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.
