Buckeye police investigate fatal shooting

BUCKEYE, AZ (June 21, 2026): Buckeye police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred this morning in a downtown neighborhood.

Around 10:45 a.m. this morning, Buckeye police received reports of a shooting near 3rd St. and Centre Ave. When officers arrived, they located a man in his 50s laying in a yard suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers began life-saving measures and applied a chest seal in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Buckeye Fire arrived to take over care. Despite these efforts, the victim was ultimately pronounced dead on scene.

Buckeye police were then notified that the suspect, identified as a man in his 50s who is the victim's cousin, had gone to a church down the street and then left. Some time later, the suspect returned to the scene where he was detained by officers. He is now being questioned about his involvement in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
