Yamaha Announces Historic Partnership with Peabody Institute to Enhance Music Education

Record-breaking sale of SX Series Pianos marks largest institutional acquisition in Yamaha history

BUENA PARK, Calif. (JUNE 12, 2025)-Yamaha, the world's leading manufacturer of musical instruments, is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, the oldest conservatory in America. This collaboration includes a record-breaking institutional sale of the Yamaha SX Series Pianos, marking it the largest acquisition of premium pianos in the company's history.
The Peabody Institute, renowned for its powerful reach in music education, has chosen the Yamaha SX Series Pianos for their exceptional quality and craftsmanship. The partnership underscores the commitment Yamaha has to supporting higher education and fostering the next generation of music makers. This acquisition would not have been possible without the careful guidance of Authorized Yamaha Dealer, Downtown Piano Works, which recently received the 2024 Institutional Dealer of the Year award.
"We are thrilled to partner with the Peabody Institute and provide them with more than 16 of our SX Series Pianos, which offer unparalleled sound quality and durability," said Amy Sorter, director of higher education solutions at Yamaha. "This significant sale is a testament to the quality and reliability of our instruments, and we look forward to supporting Peabody's mission of excellence in music education."
"We're proud to be able to upgrade our inventory with these new pianos," noted Andrew Kipe, assistant dean of performance activities at the Peabody Institute. "In practice rooms and studios across campus, it's important that we provide our talented student-artists with pianos of the same quality as those instruments they will encounter in their performances around the world. This donor-supported investment has helped us realize that goal and enhance the music-making experience for our students."
In addition to the historic sale to Peabody, Yamaha has previously made significant sales to other prestigious institutions, including UCLA, The Juilliard School, the University of North Texas, and Berklee College of Music. These sales demonstrate the growing preference for Yamaha pianos in higher education, providing a viable alternative to other well-known brands.
The Peabody Institute received its first delivery of Yamaha pianos in April and expects to receive the full delivery by early fall.
