President Trump Blocks Liccardo's Bipartisan Housing Bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. - After the House and Senate passed the historic 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, President Donald Trump canceled the bill's signing ceremony, citing frustration that Congress had not passed his SAVE America Act.

The housing package would jumpstart homebuilding, cut red tape, and help address the nation's dire housing shortage. The SAVE America Act would create new barriers to voting, particularly for women, servicemembers, and Americans whose legal documents do not match their current names.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act includes four bipartisan bills authored by Congressman Sam Liccardo (CA-16). Liccardo released the following statement:

"Tens of millions of American families face a real crisis-struggling to pay rent or to ever save enough to buy a home. Donald Trump just stalled any relief until he averts his concocted "crisis" in the midterm elections, by negating his sinking poll numbers through the evisceration of voting rights of millions of U.S. citizens.

"We're not building ballrooms or UFC octagons, so I understand why the President might get distracted- but this bill would cut red tape, boost housing supply, and lower costs for families. We need the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. We do not need to hold it hostage for his hostile takeover of fifty states' voting processes. The President should stop the tantrum and focus on lowering costs for the American people by signing this bill."
