Several Cassidy-led Bills Improving Americans' Health Care Signed Into Law

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, highlighted several Cassidy-led bills to improve Americans' health care that were signed into law in 2024.

  • Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act 2.0: reauthorizes the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research program, improving research into childhood cancer.
  • Alzheimer's Accountability and Investment Act: requiring NIH scientists to submit an annual Alzheimer's research budget directly to Congress.
  • National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA) Reauthorization Act: extending the National Alzheimer's Project to 2035 and supporting a strategic national plan to combat Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Reauthorization Act: extends programs improving education and detection of Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.
  • Emergency Medical Services for Children Reauthorization Act: extends grant programs helping emergency medical services care for children.
  • Cardiomyopathy Health, Education, Awareness, Research, and Training in Schools (HEARTS) Act: creates a grant program to provide automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR training to schools and childcare centers.
  • Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act of 2024: authorizes research and public health programs to better understand and address autism and other developmental disabilities. It also supports provider training and the development of diagnostic tools and evidence-based interventions.
  • National Plan to End Parkinson's Act: requires the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to carry out a national plan to address Parkinson's disease .
  • Maternal & Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act: clarifies that Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant can include research and activities to prevent stillbirths.
  • Supporting and Improving Rural EMS Needs (SIREN) Reauthorization Act: ensures rural EMS agencies are properly staffed and have the equipment they need to provide critical emergency care to Americans living in rural, underserved areas.
  • Poison Control Centers Reauthorization Act: supports enhancement and improvement of poison control hotlines and other poison education and prevention efforts.
  • Firefighter Cancer Registry Reauthorization Act: reauthorizes the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer, which collects relevant health and occupational information to better understand and reduce cancers among firefighters.
  • Congenital Heart Futures Reauthorization Act: extends programs related to congenital heart disease research, education and surveillance and directs the HHS Secretary to convene a workshop to improve care for adult patients living with congenital heart disease.
